JUSTIN by Jinger Henning
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”--was the goal deep within Justin’s heart as he was being scourged. Justin fell a martyr in the fourth persecution in A.D. 162. With a sharp lashing whip, he was scourged and with cruel hatred he was beheaded. Justin stayed strong even in the end with faithfulness, courage, and commitment to Christianity.
Justin stood strong in his faith, even in the face of opposition and persecution. On one occasion, upon the command to sacrifice to pagan idols, Justin and his six companions refused and were condemned to be scourged. As the crackle of the whip on Justin’s back echoed through the room, he thanked God that he would see his Savior very soon. This is a good example of standing strong in your faith and not giving up.
Courage is a characteristic we all need to have if we are going through hard times. Justin showed courage when he was condemned to be scourged. He knew he would feel the pain, but he knew that the pain wouldn’t last and soon he would be with his Lord, whom he longed for. Like Justin, we need to have the courage to stand strong in our faith no matter what others might think.
Justin is a good example of commitment to Christianity. He committed his life to the Lord because he wanted his life to count for eternity. He wanted to reach the goal he was living for. Justin committed his life to the work of the Lord and never gave up in his faith, even in the end.
We need to stand strong in our faith. Remember to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness as Justin did. Follow his example of following Jesus when you are going through trials. Remember, we will be rewarded in the end, so don’t be afraid to suffer for Jesus.
